Company Environmental Policy
Signalling, Installation and Maintenance Services Ltd is committed to minimising adverse effects on the environment from its activities, processes and products. It shall comply with all relevant legislation and, as far as reasonably practicable, aim to:
- Develop systems and procedures to assess new activities, systems and products to minimise adverse effects throughout their life cycle.
- Minimise waste and pollution.
- Recycle, re-use and recover packaging and other materials.
- Provide adequate training for employees to work in an environmentally responsible manner.
- Continually improve environmental performance.
- Integrate environmental issues in strategic and local management functions.
- Encourage sub-contractors and suppliers to adopt these principals.
- Foster co-operation with employees and the public.
- Measure and review environmental performance and conduct regular audit.
Company Drugs and Alcohol Policy
SIMS Ltd has a commitment to the health, safety and wellbeing of its employees and contractors. We also have a duty to comply with legislative requirements. The company therefore requires its employees to ensure that their work performance is not impaired by the consumption of alcohol or the taking of drugs. Employees are required to meet the standards set to promote an alcohol and drug free working environment, including any behaviour out of working hours which may reflect adversely on the reputation of the company.
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that all employees are aware that:
- The consumption of drugs or alcohol, even in small quantities including prescribed medication, may adversely affect their safety, performance, conduct or efficiency as well as the safety of other employees.
- Carrying out work for SIMS Ltd whilst they may be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or behaviour connected with alcohol consumption or drug taking which may reflect adversely on the reputation of the company, are contrary to company standards.
All employees are required under this policy:
- Not to consume alcohol whilst on duty, during breaks in the working day, including meal breaks spent away from company premises, or when rostered on call and thus liable to be required to work for the company at short notice.
- To limit their consumption of alcohol whilst off duty to ensure that they are not under the influence of alcohol in any way when reporting for duty or carrying out work for the company.
- Not to consume or use illegal drugs at any time so as to ensure they are not under the influence when reporting for duty, carrying out work for the company or on company premises.
- Not to possess, store or sell illegal drugs on company premises or bring the company into disrepute by being involved in such activities outside of work.
- When requiring medication, to find out if there may be side effects likely to impair their work performance and safety from the drug or other medication concerned, whether prescribed or available without prescription. And where this is the case, to seek advice regarding alternatives and to advise their manager when reporting for duty.
- To co-operate with the company’s alcohol and drugs screening arrangements and be prepared to take random drug and alcohol tests whilst at work.
Control and Monitoring of working Hours Policy
Purpose
The purpose of this procedure is to prevent SIMS staff from working on safety critical signalling, control or communications systems when they have become insufficiently alert due to excessive hours of work.
This procedure: -
- Lays down rules limiting the total hours that staff may work on Safety critical signalling, control and communications assets, and
- Sets out arrangements by which working hours, including overtime will be monitored.
